Home Team Meet Protocol
Home Swim Meet Protocol
In order to make the process of our home meets run smoothly, we have implemented a standard meet protocol. Swimmers should arrive 15 minutes prior to the warm-up time in order to get ready & be in the water for their warm-up.
Regular season meets begin at the following times:
Wednesday evening meets: 5:15pm warm-up, 6:00pm start time.
Saturday morning meets: 7:15am warm-up, 8:00am start time.
Keep in mind that we share pool time with the other team for warm-ups & cannot allow a swimmer to warm-up after our scheduled time in the pool. This is why it is crucial for them to be on time so they do not lose their opportunity.
Swimmers are to check in with the swimmer check-in volunteer at the front gate to get their assigned events & write them on their arm (sharpies will be provided). They are to proceed directly to the team area which is the patio & grassy lawn at the bottom of the stairs outside the pool gate and find their age group coordinator. We ask that all swimmers stay in this area for the duration of the meet as it helps our clerk of course and the age group coordinator keep track of & round them up for their meet events. If they need to use the restroom, go to the snack bar, or find a parent please ask them to check out with their respective age group coordinator. There is nothing more disappointing than a swimmer missing their event because they could not be located.
All volunteers for the meet should check-in with the volunteer coordinator who will be next to the computer operator along the fence under the deck. If you are not scheduled to work but need to accumulate some hours, please let the coordinator know you are there and ready to work.
The swimmers will enter themselves in up to three of the following individual events if they qualify: Freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, or IM (Individual Medley). The coach reserves the final decision in all individual event selection. In addition to the individual events, each swimmer may be entered into one age group relay & a mixed age group relay by the coach. Relays are solely determined by the coach.
It is the intent of the League that all swimmers entered in an event have previously demonstrated their ability to successfully swim that event legally as defined by USA Swimming. Particular attention is paid to swimmers entered in the breaststroke, butterfly and Individual Medley (IM); however, it equally applies to all entries.
Swimmers may only compete in their own age group, swim ups are only allowed when no other eligible swimmer is available in that age group to swim in that event. It can be up to one higher age group for individual events, but only if there are no other eligible swimmers for that event. Up to two higher age groups for age group relays and any higher age group for the mixed age relay. Swimmers times will count in all events in a swim up.
It is highly recommended that families review the ODSL Rules and Regulations which can be found at this link: ODSL Rules and Regualtions. You can also review the 2016 USA Swimming Rule Book at this link: 2016 Rule Book.
Lastly but not least, parents are not allowed to approach coaches, officials (this includes stroke and turn judges, starter and referee) or the computer operators at any time during a meet. If there is a question or concern, it should be directed to the ODSL Team Representative, Staffan Wassvik.
Please keep in mind that concessions are a biggest source of fundraising and that we use the proceeds from this to provide equipment that directly benefits our swimmers and provide the best experience possible to all who attend our meets.
Thank you for your cooperation in making this the best season ever.
